2011 marks the 250th Anniversary of Thetford's Charter.

Thetford Hill
Run for History
A 5k race begins and ends at the Hill Common, winding its way over TA's Cross Country Course. Suitable for runners as well as those wishing to walk, there's history facts along the way, and lunch available back at the finish line. Visit runforhistory.org for information and registration.

Old Home Day
Happening on and around the Thetford Center Common, this revival of a favorite event includes music, games, wagon rides, historical exhibits and tours, contests, an auction, and dinner.

In addition to Fair offerings, the Historical Society will be open, with exhibits inside and out.
August 12
Thetford's Birthday!
Celebrate the day with bell ringing, a town photo and supper picnic at TA, and the first performance of the Thetford Pageant - 100th Anniversary Edition, in the Martha Jane Rich Theater.
August 13
LakeFest and Pageant
Visit the THS booth at LakeFest for an historical exhibit featuring Post Mills and Lake Fairlee. Second performance of the Pageant in the evening at TA.

Hughes Barn Museum
The Hughes Barn Museum opens for the first of five consecutive Sunday afternoons. The final performance of the Pageant also takes place at 4:00 pm at TA.

Gustavus Loomis talk with author Kenneth Lawson
Gustavus Loomis was born in 1789 in Thetford. Graduating from West Point, he went on to a long and respected military career, retiring at the rank of General after the Civil War. His father, Beriah Loomis, was active in the formation and early years of the First Congregational Church. Join us in that church's sanctuary with Loomis biographer Ken Lawson, himself an Army Chaplain, to learn more about this remarkable Thetford native.

TVFD Labor Day Parade
Here's your chance to be creative -- how about participating in this year's Labor Day Parade, where the theme is Thetford's History? Come dressed as your favorite ancestor or historical figure, design a float, drive a horse and buggy, or an antique car -- you're limited only by your imagination. It'll be "History on Parade," and there will be prizes for best entries, as chosen by a panel of honorary judges. Then enjoy the always delicious chicken barbeque lunch, cooked by the Fire Department.

Town Meeting 2061
Where will we be in 50 years? Come prepared to think, plan, and vote on non-binding articles for Thetford's 300th Birthday. Held on the 250th anniversary of the Proprietors' first meeting in Hebron, Connecticut.
